Tumeric Latte

I’ve been starting to delay my morning coffee to help reduce my caffeine addiction. Instead of a hot cup of joy I have been replacing it with a Tumeric Latte. Sounds slightly strange, but this recipe provides a warm spice to brighten your morning. Not to mention there are many benefits to consuming Tumeric.

Tumeric contains curcumin, which has powerful anti-inflammatory effects and is a strong antioxidant. The anti-inflammatory properties can aid with inflammation within the body, and some studies show rheumatoid arthritis patients have responded very well to Tumeric. And antioxidants help protect your body from the damage of free radicals. Tumeric has also showed promise in helping with Depression and Alzheimer’s Diseas.

This spice also contains properties that can help your gut health. Tumeric can lower the inflammation in your bowels, great for someone suffering with irritable bowels diseases. It can help relieve bloating and gas. A few studies have showed that Tumeric can stimulate the gallbladder and excrete bile. This aids with digestion and the absorption of fats and oils.

If you really want to gain these effects it is recommended to take it in capsule form, and to also add black pepper. The amount in this latte recipe may not give you the full effects you are looking for unless you up the dosage in this recipe. Piperine which is found in black pepper helps the absorption of curcumin.

Now I drink this usually early to mid-morning. If you are bloated, or stomach is not settling. I recommend taking it a night to help with these symptoms.

Tumeric Latte

Ingredients:

  • 1 Cup of Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Milk
  • 1 tsp of Tumeric
  • 1 tsp of Cinnamon
  • 1 tsp of ground Ginger, if you have fresh Ginger I highly recommend you use this instead.
  • 1/4 tsp Black Pepper
  • Optional: 1-2 tbsp of honey or maple syrup for sweetness
  • Optional: 1 tbsp of Coconut oil, to help fill you and if you place the latte in a blender it will give you a thick creamy drink!

Instructions:

  1. Combine all ingredients into a pot, and mix on medium until desired temperature is reached. About 5 minutes, then let it sit for another 5 minutes to steep.
  2. You can strain it to remove the small grains of spices if you want a smooth latte.
  3. If you added coconut oil, place mixture into a blender to blend for a minute to really give you a creamy latte.

There you go! A warm, healthy drink that can help your body in so many ways!
